In an HF station, right after which component is the SWR meter inserted?
D
Answer
Basic radio theory
Type
A
The antenna switch
B
The antenna tuner
C
The last stage of RF amplification
D
The low-pass filter
Answer Notes
In a standard HF station block diagram tested on the exam, the equipment is connected in a specific sequence: Transmitter, Low-Pass Filter, SWR Meter, Antenna Tuner, Antenna Switch, and finally the Antenna. Therefore, the SWR meter is inserted immediately following the low-pass filter.
Placing the SWR meter after the low-pass filter ensures that the meter is measuring the clean, fundamental frequency of your signal. If it were placed before the filter, any harmonics present could cause inaccurate SWR readings.
Furthermore, the SWR meter must sit before the antenna tuner so the operator can monitor the match being presented to the transmitter and adjust the tuner accordingly.
