Answer Notes
A "store-and-forward" system functions precisely as its name implies: the satellite receives digital data, stores it in its onboard memory, and then forwards it by transmitting the data at a later time.
This is particularly useful for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, which are only visible to a specific ground station for a few minutes at a time. Using this system, the sender and the recipient do not need to be in the satellite's footprint simultaneously.
A sender can upload a message to the satellite's digital bulletin board when it passes overhead. Later, when the satellite enters the footprint of the intended recipient's station, the recipient can connect to the satellite and download the waiting message.
