Answer
Electrical, RF, and mechanical safety
Type
A
At the output connector of a transceiver
B
At the antenna feed point
C
At the ac power service panel
D
On a grounded panel near where feed lines enter the building
Answer Notes
Lightning arresters are designed to safely shunt high-voltage transients from lightning strikes directly into the earth before they can enter your home. To be effective, they must be mounted on a grounded panel located exactly at the point where the feed lines penetrate the building's exterior.
Placing the arrester at the radio or at the antenna feed point is highly dangerous. If placed at the radio, the lightning surge will travel completely through the house before reaching the arrester. If placed at the antenna without an entry-point ground, the energy can still arc into the home's wiring. Keeping the surge outside the building is the only way to protect your equipment and prevent fires.
