Which of the following should be considered when selecting an accessory SWR meter?

A
Answer
Station setup and equipment operation
Type
A
The frequency and power level at which the measurements will be made
B
The distance that the meter will be located from the antenna
C
The types of modulation being used at the station
D
All these choices are correct

Answer Notes

SWR meters are designed with specific internal components, such as directional couplers, that are only accurate within a particular frequency range. An SWR meter designed for High Frequency (HF) bands will usually not give accurate readings on VHF or UHF bands, and vice versa. Additionally, the meter must be robust enough to handle the maximum output power of your transmitter. Pushing 1,000 watts through an SWR meter rated for only 100 watts will physically damage or destroy its internal components through overheating or electrical arcing. Factors like the distance from the antenna or the type of modulation used (like SSB, FM, or AM) do not dictate the physical hardware rating or selection of the meter itself, making the "All these choices" option incorrect.
