Answer Notes

A diode is a two-terminal semiconductor device that acts as a one-way valve for electrical current. Its two terminals (electrodes) are specifically named the anode and the cathode. When positive voltage is applied to the anode relative to the cathode, the diode is forward-biased and current flows. If the polarity is reversed, it blocks the current. The distractors are terminals for entirely different components. "Source and drain" belong to a Field Effect Transistor (FET), while "base" is part of a Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT). "Plus and minus" describe general electrical polarity rather than the physical electrodes themselves.
