Answer Notes

In amateur radio, there is a long-standing convention for choosing which sideband to transmit on. For frequencies above 9 MHz, which includes the 20, 17, 15, 12, and 10-meter HF bands, as well as all VHF and UHF frequencies, Upper Sideband (USB) is the established standard. Frequencies below 9 MHz (such as the 160, 80, and 40-meter bands) traditionally use Lower Sideband (LSB). Because 10 meters, VHF, and UHF are all well above the 9 MHz threshold, Upper Sideband is the universally accepted operating mode for SSB on these bands.
