Answer Notes
A semiconductor diode is a polarized electronic component, meaning it must be inserted into a circuit in a specific direction. Its two terminals are the anode (positive) and the cathode (negative).
Because most diodes are very small cylindrical components, there is rarely enough room to print words like "cathode" or letters like "C" or "K" clearly. Instead, manufacturers print a solid stripe or painted band around one end of the component to mark the cathode lead.
This physical stripe intentionally mimics the straight line found in the schematic symbol for a diode. This visual parallel helps circuit builders correctly orient the component on a printed circuit board.
