What is meant by the term "NTSC?"

NTSC stands for National Television System Committee. It is the legacy analog television standard that was widely used in North America before the widespread transition to digital television formats like ATSC. In amateur radio, the term NTSC refers to an analog fast-scan color TV signal. Hams still use this standard today for Amateur Television (ATV) transmissions, often operating on the 70 cm band and higher. Distractors suggesting it is a digital encryption standard, a frame compression scheme, or a satellite mode are incorrect because NTSC is strictly an older analog video standard developed in the mid-20th century.
