A helical-beam antenna with right-hand polarization will best receive signals with:

A
Answer
Interference, EMC, and safety
Type
A
right-hand polarization
B
horizontal polarization
C
vertical polarization only
D
left-hand polarization

Answer Notes

For maximum signal transfer, the polarization of the receiving antenna must perfectly match the polarization of the transmitted signal. Therefore, an antenna wound for right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) will best receive right-hand circularly polarized signals. If a right-hand helical antenna attempts to receive a left-hand polarized signal, it will suffer from extreme cross-polarization loss, often 20 dB to 30 dB. If it receives a purely vertical or horizontal (linear) signal, it will suffer a moderate 3 dB loss. Matching the exact circular direction is always the optimal choice for signal reception.
