The dielectric is the insulating material between the center conductor and the outer shield of a coaxial cable. Air is an excellent insulator with very little RF loss, so replacing solid plastic with a foam material introduces air pockets, significantly reducing the cable's overall signal loss (attenuation). While foam dielectric lowers the loss, it actually increases the velocity factor compared to solid dielectric, making the distractor 'Lower velocity factor' incorrect. Furthermore, foam is less mechanically stable and typically has lower power handling capabilities than solid dielectric because it can deform or melt more easily under physical stress or heat.
