A traditional Yagi-Uda antenna consists of a single driven element along with one or more parasitic elements (reflectors and directors). The driven element is fundamentally just a standard dipole antenna, which means it is approximately 1/2 wavelength long.
The parasitic elements are also near a half-wavelength but are cut to slightly different dimensions to shape the radiation pattern. The reflector is slightly longer than 1/2 wavelength (typically by about 5%), making it inductive, while directors are slightly shorter (by about 5%), making them capacitive.
Distractors proposing quarter-wave elements or math formulas like "234 divided by frequency" describe quarter-wave vertical antennas, not the driven element of a Yagi. The formula for a half-wave dipole is approximately 468 divided by the frequency in MHz.
