What should be done before climbing a tower that supports electrically powered devices?

Before working on any structure with electrically powered devices, such as lights, rotators, or remote switches, you must ensure that no electricity can accidentally be turned on while you are working. This is achieved through a standard industrial safety procedure known as 'lockout/tagout,' where breakers are turned off, physically locked, and tagged with a warning. Removing the ground connection from the tower ('ungrounding') would actually increase the risk of a dangerous electrical shock or severe lightning damage. Furthermore, notifying the electric company is completely unnecessary for managing privately owned circuits on an amateur radio tower.
