Answer Notes
The moment a Volunteer Examiner hands you a signed Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE) for upgrading to General class, you are legally authorized to use all General class operating privileges. You can operate on any General or Technician class band segment immediately.
You do not have to wait for the FCC's Universal Licensing System (ULS) database to reflect your new status or wait for a fee receipt. The CSCE serves as your immediate, valid temporary authorization.
However, when operating on the newly acquired General bands before the FCC database officially updates, you must append a special identifier to your call sign, such as '/AG' (Authorized General) on CW or digital modes, or by saying 'stroke AG' or 'slant AG' on voice.
