Answer Notes
In Digital Mobile Radio (DMR), a "talkgroup" functions like a virtual channel. Because DMR allows multiple conversations to occur on the same frequency using digital time slots, talkgroups help organize these data streams.
When you program a talkgroup ID into your radio, your receiver will remain muted until it detects a transmission tagged with that exact ID. This allows various groups of users to share a single channel and time slot at different times without having to listen to unrelated traffic.
A talkgroup is a technical routing mechanism, not a social construct. Therefore, defining it simply as an interest group or a scheduled net is incorrect.
