Answer Notes

The primary purpose of a lightning surge protector is to intercept thousands of volts of destructive energy and safely shunt it to earth ground before it can enter your home. To achieve this safely and effectively, it must be installed outside the building and bonded to a high-quality earth ground via the shortest possible path. If you place the surge protector inside the house, such as right behind the transceiver, the lightning energy is brought directly into your living space before being shunted, creating a massive fire hazard. Placing it near the antenna leaves the long cable run leading to your house completely unprotected.
