If you operate your station with indoor antennas, what precautions should you take when you install them?
B
Answer
Basic radio theory
Type
A
Position the antennas parallel to electrical power wires to take advantage of parasitic effects
B
Locate the antennas as far away as possible from living spaces that will be occupied while you are operating
C
Locate the antennas close to your operating position to minimize transmission line length
D
Position the antennas along the edge of a wall where it meets the floor or ceiling to reduce parasitic radiation
Answer Notes
Indoor antennas expose occupants of a building to much higher levels of radio frequency (RF) energy than typical outdoor antennas. To minimize this RF exposure and ensure a safe environment, you must install indoor antennas as far away as possible from living spaces and areas where people spend time.
While minimizing transmission line length might reduce signal loss, doing so by placing the antenna near your operating position puts you at risk of unsafe RF exposure. Similarly, placing antennas near electrical wiring can cause dangerous interference and coupling, rather than beneficial parasitic effects.
