What should you do for safety, before removing the shielding on a UHF power amplifier?

A
Answer
Basic radio theory
Type
A
Make sure the amplifier cannot accidentally be turned on
B
Make sure the amplifier output connector is grounded
C
Make sure that RF leakage filters are connected
D
Make sure all RF screens are in place at the amplifier output connector

Answer Notes

UHF power amplifiers can generate highly dangerous levels of RF energy and often contain lethal high-voltage DC power supplies. Before removing any protective shielding, you must ensure the amplifier cannot be accidentally energized to protect yourself from severe burns, electrical shocks, or hazardous RF exposure. While grounding the output or using filters might sound like good engineering practices for signal management, they will not protect you if the amplifier is accidentally powered up while the shielding is off. Complete de-energization is the only safe approach.
