Which of the following is an advantage of BiCMOS logic?
C
Answer
Components and circuit devices
Type
A
Its simplicity results in much less expensive devices than standard CMOS
B
It is immune to electrostatic damage
C
It has the high input impedance of CMOS and the low output impedance of bipolar transistors
D
All these choices are correct
Answer Notes
BiCMOS combines two different semiconductor technologies—Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJT) and Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductors (CMOS)—onto a single integrated circuit.
This hybrid design leverages the best characteristics of both families. The CMOS portion provides an extremely high input impedance, meaning it draws virtually no current from the driving circuit. The bipolar portion provides a low output impedance, allowing the device to drive heavier loads and switch states very quickly.
The distractors are incorrect because manufacturing two different technologies on one die makes BiCMOS more complex and expensive, not simpler or cheaper. Furthermore, the presence of the CMOS components means the device remains sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.
