An SMA (SubMiniature version A) connector is a very compact, threaded RF connector widely used in modern amateur radio equipment, particularly for handheld transceivers and microwave applications. Its threaded design provides a secure mechanical connection and excellent electrical performance at very high frequencies.
Because of its precise construction, an SMA connector can reliably handle signals well into the microwave range, often up to 18 GHz. This makes it far superior to older, larger connectors like the PL-259 or BNC for UHF and microwave work.
