Answer Notes
Technician class operators have limited privileges on the High Frequency (HF) bands, specifically in segments of the 80, 40, 15, and 10-meter bands. To prevent severe interference while entry-level operators develop their skills, the FCC strictly limits Technician class peak envelope power (PEP) to 200 watts on these HF segments.
It is easy to confuse this with the 1500-watt maximum legal limit or the standard 100-watt output of a typical standalone transceiver. However, the legal maximum for a Technician operating on any of their allowed HF frequencies is exactly 200 watts.
