The scanning function allows a transceiver to automatically tune through a programmed list of memory channels or a specific range of frequencies. It pauses when it detects a sufficiently strong signal, allowing the operator to listen to the activity before the scan resumes. This feature is highly useful for monitoring local repeaters, emergency frequencies, or simplex channels without having to manually turn the tuning dial.
