What types of international communications are FCC-licensed amateur radio stations permitted to make?
A
Answer
FCC rules, station licensing, and operator duties
Type
A
Communications incidental to the purposes of the Amateur Radio Service and remarks of a personal character
B
Communications incidental to conducting business or remarks of a personal nature
C
Only communications incidental to contest exchanges; all other communications are prohibited
D
Any communications that would be permitted by an international broadcast station
Answer Notes
The Amateur Radio Service is fundamentally designed for non-commercial exchange, experimentation, and self-training. International rules set by the ITU, as well as FCC regulations, allow communications that are incidental to these purposes, alongside remarks of a personal nature.
Distractors involving business are strictly incorrect because business communications or pecuniary interests are completely prohibited in amateur radio. Furthermore, amateur radio is a two-way service for individuals, not a one-way broadcast service, making the distractor about international broadcast stations incorrect.
