Answer Notes

The FCC requires that all Volunteer Examiners (VEs) be at least 18 years old. This requirement is in place because VEs are entrusted with administering federal exams, handling sensitive personal information, and legally upholding the integrity of the testing process. While there is absolutely no minimum age to earn an amateur radio license, the responsibility of being an accredited examiner is restricted to adults. Therefore, younger hams holding General, Advanced, or Extra class licenses must wait until their 18th birthday to become VEs.
