Type

B
There are no requirements other than being able to show a copy of the expired license
C
Contact the FCC to have the license reinstated
D
The applicant must show proof of the appropriate expired license grant and pass the current Element 2 exam
Answer Notes
If an amateur radio license expires and the two-year grace period passes without renewal, the license is permanently canceled. However, the FCC allows former General, Advanced, and Extra class licensees to receive credit for their previously passed higher-level exam elements (Element 3 and Element 4).
To reclaim the General class license, the applicant does not need to retake the General exam. Instead, they must provide proof of their expired General license and pass the current Technician class exam (Element 2). This ensures the applicant is up to date on current basic rules and operating procedures.
