Technician 2026-2030T1E06
When, other than during an emergency, may a Technician class licensee be the control operator of a station operating in an Amateur Extra Class band segment?
A
Answer
FCC rules, station licensing, and operator duties
Type
A
At no time
B
When designated as the control operator by an Amateur Extra Class licensee
C
As part of a multi-operator contest team
D
When using a club station whose trustee holds an Amateur Extra Class license
Answer Notes
FCC rules dictate that a control operator may only operate within the privileges granted by their specific license class. Consequently, a Technician class licensee cannot act as the control operator on Amateur Extra class frequencies under normal circumstances.
Operating at an Extra class licensee's house, using a club station with an Extra class trustee, or participating in a contest does not temporarily upgrade your privileges.
To operate in an Extra segment, an actual Extra class licensee must be designated as the control operator.
